Chemical Handling Equipment
![]()
Chloride are please to announce
their association with Chem-Resist Europe for the handling of acids and waste
liquors. Chem-Resist Europe provides corrosion resistant thermoplastic plant and equipment to
Europe's leading Battery, Chemical, Metal Processing and Electronics industries.
With Manufacturing bases in the UK and the Czech Republic, our ambition is to
work with customers to create environmentally safe and efficient solutions to
the handling and processing of corrosive liquids and gases throughout Europe.
|
Chem-Resist produce the largest corrosion
resistant all-thermoplastic spiral-wound Polypropylene and High Density
Polyethylene vertical cylindrical storage vessels with diameters up to 4
metres and capacities up to 100m³.
The new European Standard EN 12573:2000 released in November 2000 has now been adopted across the European Community and offers engineers the ability to specify construction to the latest European Standard. Producing in the UK and Czech Republic allows us to offer a consistent supply to customer's plants in the UK and Continental Europe.

Chem-Resist Acid Recovery Systems address the ever increasing environmental
and legislative challenges facing companies operating metal finishing and
cleaning processes.
For processes using Hydrochloric Acid as cleaning liquor, Chem-Resist offers an evaporative system, which eliminates waste and produces a saleable ferrous chloride by-product. A crystallisation process eliminates waste from operations using sulphuric acid. This process cools the 'spent' pickling liquor and produces a saleable ferrous sulphate crystal. Companies from USA, Mexico, Thailand, Belgium, Spain, Turkey and Israel have experienced the following benefits:

Major savings can be made in the Lead Acid
Battery industry by purchasing and transporting Sulphuric Acid in its most
concentrated form and diluting it on-site at the battery manufacturing site.
However, Sulphuric Acid has a great affinity for water and so the dilution process has a high exothermic heat of dilution releasing large quantities of heat energy. Due to this boiling of the resultant mixture can occur quite easily if the process is not carefully controlled. It should be noted that, regardless of the proportions of the feedstocks and the final concentration, the mixture will always pass through the maximum exotherm (in excess of 145°C), at some point in the process. Plant conventionally used to produce Dilute Sulphuric Acid from concentrated feedstock traditionally uses resin filled graphite, PTFE or glass for contact surfaces in the mixing and cooling areas. These direct mixing designs suffer from severe thermal shock and thermal cycling associated with these relatively fragile and expensive materials. The results of these stresses are high maintenance costs and significant plant downtime.

Who uses the system?
Sulphuric acid dilution systems can be
used in a number of industries. The Chem-Resist system has in particular
been successful in the battery manufacturing industry with Exide (UK), Akuma
(Czech Republic) and Hawker (Poland).

Overview of the System
The system consists of:
| Acid Feed Section | |
| Deionised Water Feed Section | |
| Static Mixing and Cooling Section | |
| Cool Acid Pumping Section |
The product composition is monitored by a densitometer and controlled using an electronic control system which regulates the water feed control valve. For safe operation of the plant, mixing temperatures are monitored by temperature sensors linked to an electronic controller which in alarm conditions initiates a close-down procedure rendering the plant safe.
